This week we sat down with The Rabbi, a kink educator with an eclectic mix of topping interests. We talked about kinks you can do on a dollar store budget, such as cell popping, quills, gua-sha, body drumming, and chain fisting. We also discussed DISC theory and how he uses this model in his counseling practice to help people outside of kink and polyamory.
Regarding Rabbi’s Radioactive Spider Bite into Kink, he explains that there were lots of signs that he was kinky throughout his life. He initially became interested after meeting a kinky woman he started dating, and he thought he would be able to win her back through delving deeply into kink. This didn’t work out, but he stuck with kink and learned so much about himself and his interests.
Dollar Store Kink
The Rabbi talks about how one of his main kinky inspirations is going to the dollar store and getting creative with what he can find there. When he began his kink journey he was unemployed and didn’t have the money for expensive toys, so he picked things up from thrift stores and dollar stores out of necessity. He continues doing this to this day, because it’s resulted in him coming up with tons of unique scene ideas that border on performance art.
Electro Play and Dollar Store Kink
Along with this, he does lots of electro-topping with dollar store kink items—most notably, The Slinky of Doom. He runs a current through a slinky and does lots of dangling and teasing with it, and depending on people’s bodies, he sometimes makes it walk over their curves. He also does cell popping (also known as micro-branding), in which all you need is a flame and a needle or a similar sharp object. Another is gua-sha, where you rub a hard object (such as a coin or a stone) over someone’s skin in order to create patterns and designs with bruises. Chain fisting and body drumming can also potentially be done with items you already have around your house.
DISC Theory
Next we discuss DISC theory, created by William Moulton Marston, who also created Wonder Woman. Marston created Wonder Woman in part to promote DISC theory, which stands for dominance, inducement, submission, and compliance. The basis of the theory is that people are happiest when guided by a loving authority. This obviously fits well into kink and power exchange.
Power exchange is present in every relationship, not just sexual ones. In your everyday life you might be submitting to your boss or the law, whereas in other areas of your life you’re responsible for guiding others, such as if you’re a parent. DISC theory illustrates that if you become aware of which side of the D/s slash you’re on in your various relationships and where you can try to find more balance in the areas where you’re unhappy, you can be more satisfied with your life in general.
Finally, The Rabbi answers listener questions about kitchen sinks as impact implements, how quills differ from needle play, how he applies DISC theory in vanilla counseling, and more.
