Fun with Penis Molding Kits
We recently had the pleasure of partnering up with Clone-A-Willy, a sex toy company from Portland, Oregon. Clone-A-Willy is known by many as the “make a copy of your dick” kit provider, but nowadays they have kits to clone vulvas as well. A couple quick facts about Clone-A-Willy: A big part of their mission statement is that they help their customers feel proud of their unique bodies and empowered in their sexuality; the kits are all 100% body-safe and use the highest-grade platinum cure silicone; and everything is ethically-sourced and hand-assembled in Portland. You can use these kits to clone other stuff as well! Clone your fingers! Clone your toes! Or for maximum value, clone that weird fruit that just looks like a dick!
I was super excited to work with them, as I have been thinking a lot recently about making my own sex toys and how I’d go about it. Plus, I would get to make myself a nice copy of my boy’s junk, which naturally inspires many, many interesting, kinky scenarios. Clone-A-Willy generously sent us a few penis molding kits to try out as well as one to raffle off to our good listeners! Before getting further into the review, head over to our Twitter and enter the raffle, which will be running from June 13 to July 1!
Now, I have a background in sculpture and fine art, but for some highly regrettable reason I’ve never taken a mold-making/casting class. Thankfully, that turned out to be a non-issue, because the product comes with as much clear and thorough instruction as they could fit in the packaging. They also have a ton of resources on their website and are always available to contact if you have additional questions. After reading all of the information available, I felt confident that I could do this task easily enough: Measure water, mix molding powder, pour it in, and slap that baby on Dick dick. Bam, easy. Well…not completely.
When we made the first mold, I set up everything mise en place: Water here, bowl here, tube right there, powder open and ready, good. We had him put on a vibrating cock ring to help facilitate and maintain his erection for longer. The most challenging part of this kit is that once the water hits the powder and you get mixing, you only have about two minutes to get that penis (or whatever other vaguely phallic item you might be cloning) into that tube before it sets up. This time constraint can cause some timing issues, as we were waiting until the last possible second to get him in the mold so he would stay harder longer. Our timing was way off, and we tried to put it in too late, only to have his nice junk poking a solid but soggy gel, which is every bit as erotic as it sounds. Namely, not at all.
We decided to reconfigure our process and enlisted the help of a friend. Instead of Dick kneeling in the bathtub, waiting for me to mix and hand him the tube (though he did cleverly rig up his laptop to play four pornos at once), this time I cut a hole into the other end of it so that I could pour the mix in while he was laying down. That way, he didn’t strain his back, and I could go down on him while our friend mixed, the team effort ensuring the best chance of a timely hard-on. This worked like a charm. I administered a blow job while our friend got the water measured and to temp, and when the timer went off at the end of mixing she handed it over to us, we threw the tube on top of him and poured it right in. Success!
In the directions for the kit, it recommends that you wait 4-8 hours before pouring the silicone to keep maximum detail. I set an alarm for 8 hours and woke up at 3 A.M. to do it, then 24 hours later unmolded. Basically, it was like Christmas, but for perverts. (Dicksmas?) My enthusiasm was not misplaced. The dildo has tons of detail; it’s so lifelike, I am not going to include a picture in this review because it legitimately feels like unsolicited dick pic territory. I think it came out pretty well, but being an “artist” and perfectionist, I do want to try another. Some of the shape I think got a little twisted when we initially poured the mold. Also, there are a few bubbles, one of which was pretty large just under the corona, I think partially due to the undercut and partially because I didn’t pour the silicone slowly enough and from a high enough angle. I have heard tips from home toy makers that you can use a Magic Wand or similar to vibrate the mold as the silicone is setting up to get rid of some of the bubbles, and I will be trying this next time. Another note that I have, just on a personal level, is that I find the silicone to be a little stiff for my liking. Stiff is not bad in general, but I think with highly textured toys I prefer much more squish, but this is of course completely subjective. This toy feels pretty good to use but I can’t say it feels super similar to the original penis it was cast from, I think just because it has much less “give” to it than a body part does.
Overall, this process was very easy to understand and, in spite of our first attempt failing, which was more our fault than the product’s, it was really fun and super cool. Just as a reminder, you can pretty much clone anything that fits into that tube. My kinky gears are already turning; at this point, i want to make dildos of basically everything. If you too have a perverse desire to make insertable versions of everyday objects (or just are fond of a particular dick [or vulva!]), Clone-A-Willy set us up with the discount code “ocpkink” that you can use on their site for 20% off any of their products. And if you are in fact interested in seeing the final product, well, just send us an email.
