Back when I was working in a sex shop for a while, a certain bullet vibe caught my eye; I remember fiddling around with it, testing out the motor with my hands, and thinking to myself “This thing has real chops!” But despite my curiosity, the Amo bullet vibe by Hot Octopuss was only ever an idle thought and passing fancy, cursed to forever be a “what could have been.” Until now, that is…  Needless to say, I was super excited to finally be able to give this vibe a real test (on more than just my hands) and report back to you.

This bullet comes packed in a hot pink holographic box (shiny!) with its charger and some instructions. Though I usually don’t say much about packaging (I leave it to cats to be more excited by the box than the toy that came in it), I really, really dig the trappings that come with this one.  To reiterate, hot pink and holographic; what more need be said? The instructions it comes with are mostly pictorial and pretty easy to understand, if you’re the sort who prefers instructions to trial-and-delight. The bullet itself is a pretty standard 3.75” long, only very slightly longer than the popular We-Vibe Tango. I like the ombre pink-to-black base on it, which is a fun deviation from a lot of other bullet designs I have seen that tend to be a lot less visually delightful. The main body is made of a silky soft silicone, with just a bit of squish on the pinpoint tip. This toy just feels really comfortable in my hand, between the material used and the unique shape of it, no doubt part of my aforementioned fascination.

Overall, I find the design very pleasing, especially the particular softness of the silicone. The bullet end is pretty firm, but I think the amount of “squish” it has is perfect for the intended use. The Amo has three buttons, one that pulls double-duty as both power switch and speed selection and a pair of up/down buttons on the other side to control the strength of the vibration. To turn it on, you have to hold the button down for a solid two seconds, which honestly feels more like four to me but I did time it, and it actually is two. I suppose this is intended as an effective travel lock, but it’s frankly annoying if you’re an impatient masturbator, as I apparently am.  I think the button design is generally good, and I like toys that have up/down selection  rather than just clicking through forever until you find the right strength. The only issue I have is the buttons being somewhat recessed makes them sometimes hard to locate and operate, especially if your hand is covered in lube. It’s not that bad, and it’s something you get used to after using it for a little bit, so I personally don’t mind much, but it is something to keep in mind, especially if ease of operation is a concern. 

Strength-wise, the Amo does impress. This toy has five speeds, one of which is steady, the rest being patterns. Along with the patterns, the Amo also gives you five intensity settings, which apply to both the varied patterns and the steady option. This ability to modulate the strength of patterns is an option I haven’t personally seen on a vibrator before, and while I usually don’t enjoy pattern vibrations, a few of the ones that this toy offers are actually quite nice. There’s a few that oscillate strength at a rhythm I’ve found quite enjoyable and even got me close to orgasm (quite an achievement for a pattern for me personally). Of course, steady speed will always be my favorite, and the motor on this one is happy to provide all of the deep and rumbly vibration asked of it. Based on my experiences with bullets so far, the Amo offers some of the deepest, rumbling vibrations of any, rivaling even some of the more expensive bullets on the market. As far as my personal masturbation practices, I usually opt for a pressure air toy or a strong wand, but I was actually able to get off with the Amo on the highest setting. The incremental strength options build up in a pleasing way, with the strongest still being very rumbly. I would personally prefer if they had just one speed higher, but overall this toy is very strong!

The shape of the silicone tip is also very pleasing. I usually don’t like a pinpointed or flicking sensation from a vibrator, but I found that I really enjoyed rubbing with the pointed tip of this one. The soft, rounded edge was also very nice for broader stimulation, something I usually gravitate more towards. Together, I think both sides provide a nice variation on sensation without being too sharp of a contrast. 

One minor thing I discovered when testing the toy was that changing the speeds can be a bit cumbersome, and not just because of the aforementioned recessed nature of the buttons. When I’m holding the toy with the pointed tip on my bits (with my right hand), my thumb rests on the strength toggle buttons, while my index finger is on the pattern selector/power button. I have found that changing the speed with my thumb is a little less than ideal, especially in a lube-heavy situation. It’s not that bad, I would just prefer if the controls were switched OR if the buttons were raised instead of recessed.

• Would prefer button placement switched (for right-handed individuals)

Overall, I think the Amo is a stellar bullet. For the price, ($49) this toy rivals or (in my opinion) beats out some of the other popular, strong bullets on the market. There are a few things about the design I find to be a bit of a bother but nothing is truly detrimental to the use of it. I’d recommend this toy to anyone who is looking for a strong reliable bullet to add to their collection, doubly so if they want one that has a good range of use. Based on my experience working at a sex shop and blogging, the Amo has some of the most versatility in terms of a bullet that I have seen. Because of that I’d even recommend it as a good starter vibrator. Either way, the Amo is a great vibe and is made to please!
